The four-story outpatient care center, developed by Crescent Heights, was designed to focus on community well-being consistent with the values of Miami Beach and its citizens. In line with the neighborhood’s emphasis on walkability and low-rise architecture, the 709 Alton Road Baptist Health outpatient facility encourages health and well-being by connecting everyday urban amenities—like retail, food, and beverage—with active public spaces, walking paths, roof gardens, and state-of-the-art wellness care for the mind and body. Perkins+Will, Crescent Heights and Baptist Health worked together to make this healthcare center truly unique in that it operates as a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use facility, complementing the local context, while also becoming a beacon of innovative architecture on the Alton Road corridor.
The team’s aligned mission with Baptist Health was to create and sustain an effective healthcare-community partnership in Miami Beach. Improving the patient experience and encouraging social engagement through strategic design was paramount.
709 Alton Road houses a full service wellness operation, including primary care, urgent care, diagnostic imaging, physical therapy, endoscopy and community services. Imaging components include X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, bone densitometry, CT and MRI.
The innovation of the design is not limited to the architecture, as the package of programmed services offered to the community is the only one of its kind. The design is an intentional culmination of context and program, resulting in a welcoming, scale-appropriate modern building that contributes to the ongoing transformation of Alton Road.
