Delray Beach Arts Warehouse

Delray Beach Arts Warehouse

Delray Beach

Built in 2017.

Designed by Currie Sowards Aguila Architects.

This coastal community has always been a destination for artists. In the 1930’s and 40’s the town was the winter home for national cartoonists. As the town has grown, affordable space for artists has become limited. A cultural plan was written and identified the need for an artist co-op, specifically, a place where artists can “organize and conduct classes and exhibits, give lectures, and set up youth art camps.” This design is intended to not only fill the void for visual art studio space, but also to reinforce the cultural tourism of the town. This is a classic case of re-purposing a dilapidated and abandoned warehouse and transforming not only the building, but the local arts district.
